Katie and Brandon Cassidy met while working as DJs at the campus radio station, at Green River Community College in Auburn. After a nearly yearlong engagement, they married at Brandon’s family’s beach property at Ocean Shores on Aug. 5, 2017.
“Brandon’s mom, Karen Cassidy, basically did all of the planning and decorating,” says Katie. “She knows my style and how I like to decorate. It was absolutely perfect, and she made it really special and unique.”
The vintage bohemian-style wedding was complemented with colors of lavender, yellow and deep red.
“It was really important to us that our families were equally represented in décor and pictures,” says Katie. For the décor, Karen used a lot of vintage objects and memorabilia from both families, including white gloves from the bride’s great grandmother and various antiques from the groom’s grandfather’s collection. The reception tablecloths were from family members, too.
FAVORS: The couple gave coasters to the 115 guests. The coasters featured the couple’s favorite engagement pictures.
GREEN TOUCHES: At the reception, the couple chose to use glassware and china to limit waste.
SPECIAL MOMENTS: The ceremony officiant was Katie’s Great-Uncle Bob: Robert Millikan, a retired circuit court judge from Douglas County, Oregon. “It was a really beautiful moment,” says Katie.
Katie and Brandon appreciated that most of their family members attended their wedding, especially since some had to travel more than 1,000 miles to be there. The bride's grandma, who was not able to attend, experienced the ceremony through FaceTime. The bride showed her that she was wearing the opal earring she had given her.
Katie works in the fashion field, and Brandon is a lumberjack. They make their home in California.
