THE PANTAGES THEATER and lobby was transformed into a 1920s speakeasy with rum runners and floozies hosting gambling games and enticing guests to try a variety of giggle waters so delicious they should have been prohibited. Guests entered the glittering lobby only by uttering the secret password before rolling the dice on fantastic prizes and entering their bid on gaggles of swanky silent auction items. Dapper gents and dolled up dames enjoyed a variety of delicious appetizers before being chased by flatfeet into the 100-year-old Pantages Theater, where they were greeted with larger-than-life art deco décor and the sounds of the swingin’ Gail Pettis jazz band! They were served a four-course dinner by Asado along with fine wines and dessert, and a delicious “last bite” by Corina Bakery.
The entertainment continued throughout the evening with a dazzling program by EnJoy Productions with everything from a Shirley Temple aerial act to the Sister Kate dance troupe to Broadway Center’s young Conservatory actors performing a song and dance number, along with the grand live auction. The 100-year-old Pantages Theater roared with the sounds of celebration as flappers and big timers painted the town red for arts education! Funds raised totaled in excess of $310,000, including the first round of seat naming opportunities sold for the Pantages Theater renovation.
For 2019, Tacoma Arts Live will premier their new gala, “The Great Race”— think “Great Inventors”, “Steampunk” and “Age of the Invention”! The Tacoma Armory is the new venue for this fun night. Watch two teams race against the clock while the rest of the crowd place bets to win prizes. For more info or to purchase ticket to their 2019 event, visit:
