New Year’s Eve wedding in Tacoma

New Year’s Eve 2015 is a night that Abbie Oars Saner and Steven Saner will always remember: it was their wedding night.

VENUE: They were married at Historic 1625 Tacoma Place, with 180 guests witnessing the ceremony. “Most of our family and friends live in or near Tacoma, so it was a great location for the ceremony and reception,” says Abbie.

HOW THEY MET: The couple met at a family Fourth of July party. They were engaged for more than a year. Though the two say they had plenty of time to prepare for their ceremony and wedding, Abbie says, “The greatest emphasis was given toward the effort we underwent in preparing to become a married couple.”

VISION: Celebrating their wedding on New Year’s Eve was meaningful to the couple. “We wanted . . . an atmosphere that brought all the things we love together: food, drinks, music and each other,” says Abbie. “We wanted to celebrate our love by hosting our family and friends on New Year’s Eve, encompassing all that glitters in food, decorations and attire. The night reflected the way in which we come together as family and friends, all year long.”

COLORS AND DECOR: True to that glittering vision, the bridesmaids wore dresses in gold, silver and rose gold. The decor featured “shimmery metallic tones that twinkled, in everything from sequins on the tables to starry white lights used throughout the floral decor,” explains Abbie.

The generous dessert table featured a variety of treats, plus a wedding cake and a Seahawks-themed groom’s cake. Abbie’s parents, Molly and Michael Ott, are owners of Corina Bakery.

GUEST FAVORS: As guests left the reception, they were presented with a choice of a cinnamon roll or a jam-filled scone as a midnight snack or early breakfast.

SPECIAL MOMENTS: The most memorable moment for the bride was her dad’s walking her down the aisle while her stepdad officiated the ceremony. As a surprise, Abbie’s brothers sang and played guitar during the ceremony and reception. “It was unexpected and perfect!” said Abbie.

Abbie is an esthetician and Steven is a fitness trainer. They make their home in Tacoma.

This wedding was featured in South Sound Wedding & Event magazine 2017.
