Glamorous wedding at the ocean

Creating a vintage and romantic wedding at the ocean was the vision of the bride, Ioana . She and Sean were married at Seabrook Town Hall on Aug. 22, 2015. The couple had been engaged for eight months.

HOW THEY MET: Ioana moved to Washington after 16 years in California. One day when she was visiting her parents, her mother suggested that she meet Sean Malcolm, who lived in the same building. Ioana and Sean had seen one another in passing when she visited. Ioana’s mom was hesitant to give Sean her daughter’s phone number, but Sean found Ioana through social media. Eventually they met and started dating.

When Sean got to know Ioana’s father, who was terminally ill, Sean asked his permission to marry Ioana. A few days later, Ioana’s father passed away.

Although her dad wasn’t able to walk her down the wedding aisle, Ioana felt peace that the wedding was near the ocean where her father was laid to rest.

VENUE: “We choose Seabrook because it offers an intimate coastal destination with a small-town feel, showcasing Washington’s natural environment,” says Ioana. “Seabrook sits on top of beautiful cliffs on the Pacific Ocean and is surrounded by wind-swept evergreens and expansive beaches. It’s like stepping onto a movie set — and felt perfect in every way.”

THEME, DÉCOR: Ioana’s vision for their wedding was to create a glamorous feeling that was also romantic and dramatic. Her décor produced a  coastal-rustic impression with touches of vintage Hollywood and shabby chic. The wedding colors were ivory, pale pink, rose gold and slate blue.

Ioana wanted to give an authentic personal style to their wedding; she created most of the décor, using burlap, lace and mason jars. “This allowed me to be creative and add special and personal details to everything such as our card box, table runners, candleholders, dress and suit hangers, ring box, flower girl basket and large flower head-table backdrop,” she says. Ioana used colors, textures and fabrics to create a personalized and elegant sense of romance.

GUEST FAVORS: Guests were presented with s’mores and vanilla taffy encased in small linen and lace bags and tied with a small wooden heart engraved with the words “thank you.”

SPECIAL MOMENTS: The couple recalls that the words, wishes and support from loved ones were unexpected moments in their wedding.

Ioana is a photographer and Sean is an attorney. They make their home in Redmond.
