Taste wedding cakes before buying

Wedding bakeries products vary in taste, texture and appearance

Before you order your wedding cake, cupcakes or cake pops,  go to the bakery for a tasting. Call to schedule it. Not all cupcakes, cakes, cake pops taste the same! Bakers use different ingredients.

Only a couple of caterers in the South Sound bake wedding cakes and cupcakes. If your caterer does not bake cakes, you need to go to a wedding cake bakery to sample their cakes. See our Cakes, Desserts for a list.

I've tasted cupcakes and cakes from many of the South Sound and West Sound bakeries and they are ALL different! The textures and flavors are different in the cake AND the icing!

For special diet needs of you and your guests (gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, non-dairy, etc.), look for a bakery that specializes in baking for special diets. Sample those cakes and cupcakes too.

Your tastes will differ from mine as everyone's tastes are different. Do you prefer a lot of texture in the cake (example: carrot or banana cake with nuts, raisins, etc.) or consistent texture? Do you like sweet cakes and icing or less sweetness? Do you like creamy or smooth-tasting icing?

  • Choose one to three bakeries and schedule a tasting.
  • Choose the flavors you want for your reception and ask the baker to taste those specific flavors.
  • Sample the same flavors at all the bakeries, so you can compare.
  • When you have made your bakery selection, notify all the bakeries right away to let them know whether you have selected the bakery or not, so they can adjust their schedules.
