Set on gorgeous Vashon Island, this garden wedding made the best of its secluded location. Astrid Ramirez and Gary Waldron chose the wooded island setting to reflect the importance of their new beginnings.
“Gary and I come from different and distinct backgrounds, so we both thought it was imperative that we step away from the traditional and create new traditions,” says Astrid.
The two have known each other since 2004, when they met at their Tacoma high school. After Astrid’s college graduation, Astrid and Gary married, on September 15, 2013, at Madrona Meadows Bed and Barn, Vashon Island.
The ferry ride to the island ceremony location “helped transport our guests to our magical place, ” says Astrid. “The openness of the venue made everything seem vast, yet the surrounding trees seemed to wrap you in [the venue’s] embrace.”
The couple’s vision was harmonize with the environment, rather than distract from it. Their colors included a variety of pink and champagne colors, plus other complementary colors.
After the service, the 120 guests enjoyed a variety of satisfying appetizers. Children and adults played lawn games for entertainment.
To plan this special day, the couple worked with a professional wedding planner and decorator, who helped them coordinate their wedding. “She made the whole process easy and stress-free,” says Astrid.
UNIQUE DETAILS: To create a homey feel, small trinkets were placed around the venue.
SPECIAL MOMENTS: Gary especially enjoyed watching the children racing in burlap sacks. Astrid enjoyed seeing her parents feel proud of their adult children and enjoy the wedding without feeling stressed.
Astrid works part time at two jobs, in Tacoma and Auburn, while Gary works in Tacoma.
