WHO: Christina Shonborg Schock and Arthur Smith
VENUE: Thornewood Castle
DÉCOR: “We are both artists,” says Christina, and keeping in mind their friends who are artists, the couple chose to have a “unique, edgy, artistic, yet classy and sophisticated” wedding.
Christina describes Thornewood Castle as “magical, classy, historical vintage and beautiful.”
“We liked having an outdoor wedding in the sunken garden,” she says, “and the reception and dancing inside the castle.”
Christina further describes it as “Gothic with a splash of color and light. I was inspired by fashion, art and vintage charm – with our own twist.”
Letting the castle serve as decorative backdrop, the couple focused more on the style of their bridal party.
UNIQUE TOUCHES: The bride’s dress was a three-piece custom-design by Kelly Flynn titled “for art.” Most of the bridal party wore pieces by Skingraft, a Los Angeles design house, and shoes by John Fluevog.
The music played at the reception mixed pop, electronic, rock, goth and classics such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
The wedding cake was decorated with fall leaves to match the setting and time of year.
SPECIAL MOMENTS: The couple’s longtime close friend officiated at their short, personal ceremony. “It was very special and added more meaning,” says Christina.
“We enjoyed having both of our families, old and new friends come together from so many parts of the country,” Christina adds. The couple’s 90-something grandparents participate in their day.
