Spanish-themed Chambers Bay wedding

Couple marries in Spain and Tacoma

Julia and Miguel were married in Spain on Nov. 13, 2010, but Julia wanted to introduce Miguel to her loved ones and to include them in her wedding, so the newlyweds celebrated again in Tacoma.

WHO: Julia Hansmeier and Miguel Lopez
VENUE: Chambers Bay in University Place
SEASON: Summer
COLORS: Red and yellow (from the Spanish flag)
DÉCOR: Spain-themed. A yellow painted mailbox with a red flag was used to collect cards on which guests had written their comments.

Name cards and table assignments were written on small cards inserted into wine corks from Spanish and Washington bottles of wine. Each reception table was named for a city in Spain.

The menu was written in Spanish, and the wine labels were too. They used the phrase “We do … again!”

Directing guests to the ceremony and reception were handmade signs hung by a ribbon on an antique lamppost that had been converted to a coat stand.

UNIQUE TOUCHES: The base of the bride’s bouquet was wrapped with part of her grandmother’s beaded wedding veil.

The cutting cake was topped with figurines from Julia’s grandparents’ wedding cake. A groom’s cake was topped with the logo for Miguel’s favorite soccer team, Real Madrid

To share more about their lives in Spain, the couple gave guests activity and fact sheets with information about the country and themselves.

FAVORS: Each guest received a bottle of organic Spanish olive oil and a sachet crocheted by a friend in Spain and filled with lavender from Julia’s parents’ garden.
