Shape up for your wedding

Looking your best on your wedding day

By Amy Jo Palmquest, ACE Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness Model

  • Write your goals and put them on your mirror or a place you'll see them everyday!  Be specific about what you want to achieve. For example, fitting into your wedding gown, making your shoulders, arms and back look tighter, how many pounds you would like to lose, or running a race close to your wedding date.
  • Cardio is crucial for losing body fat.  You should aim to work out five days a week for 30 minutes a day (increase your heart rate!).  If you are a beginner or an advanced exerciser, the bottom line is to increase your time or intensity if you're not seeing the results you want!
  • Weight training is a great way to accelerate fat loss because you are adding muscle mass and it speeds up your metabolism.  Hire a personal trainer, even if it's just a few sessions, who can show you proper form, create a perfect plan for you, which will give you one less thing to think about! If it is not in your budget, take a class at the gym or exercise to a workout video.
  • Workout with your fiance, make it a date and start a healthy lifestyle together.
  • If you have a longer engagement, it's easier to procrastinate, so start now and you'll be happy you did.  If you don't have much time before the big day and are serious about getting in shape, finding health and fitness professionals such as a dietitian or personal trainer will help you get there much faster!
